Residents of the Cumberland Council can gain free entry, while early birds tickets can be purchased in advance for $7.50. Normal tickets are sold for $10 online and $12.50 on site respectively. There are also free shuttle buses available from Auburn station to the cherry blossom site. I even woke up really early that day and managed to take the first shuttle bus to avoid the crowds.
To find the cherry blossoms, make your way directly to the Japanese gardens. Flowers adorn the garden footpaths and once inside you'll be greeted with torii gates. To continue, you must cross the lake at the centre. Its the perfect time to snap some photos! Unfortunately the cherry blossoms had only started to bloom when I went, so the trees were mostly still bare.
If you're hungry, stop by some of the Japanese and international pop up food stores. Search further and you'll even find a bubble tea store hiding in the gardens. Take a break in between to meet Hello Kitty or just chill watching Gudetama on screen. The choice is yours! Also don't be surprised if you see chickens and peacocks that roam around.
They even had a Demochi Donuts store which I was so excited to try. I've heard a lot about these donuts but Banksia is too far, so this was my chance.
In celebration of the festival, they had created their special flavour of sakura strawberry glaze with choc bits and honey powder to coincide with the event. It was absolutely delicious! I really hope they open a store in the city soon because I'm convinced I need this in my life. I thought it wasn't overly sweet or heavy compared to normal donuts. Only downside is, it's quite pricey at $5.50 for a donut.
Not long till the festival is over now so why not check it out if you have some spare time this weekend!
