Miyajima Island

Itsukushima Shrine: A Must See UNESCO Site

The Itsukushima Shrine is a UNESCO heritage site located in Miyajima that is famous for their shrine and the floating torii gates. It's so beautiful especially during high tide, surrounded by water and the mountains in the background. I felt extremely lucky that we got the timing right and saw this amazing view because in real life it looks just as breathtaking as the photos. If you miss this opportunity, going at low tide allows you to directly walk up to the gates so it depends on your personal preference.

And what surprised me were the deers! I thought only Nara Park would have them, but these ones seemed a lot more friendly this time so I couldn't miss the chance to take a photo of them. We arrived quite early in the morning and managed to avoid the crowds. Overall I really enjoyed the peaceful vibe on the island and it's a great place to wind down for a couple of hours before returning to the fast paced life of Osaka again.

The food
Normally I'm not a big fan of Oysters but I think I may have finally converted to being an oyster lover. These ones were grilled with soy sauce on the side to serve.

It was the first time I tried age momiji manju but I was really impressed! It's basically a momiji manju with a small selection of fillings you could choose from such as red bean and cheese, which are deep fried. I only bought one, but if I could go back I would get at least two!

Getting there
From our Airbnb, we travelled by JR train before switching to the bullet train at Shin Osaka Station and finally taking the ferry from Miyajimaguchi to reach our final destination.
